Looking for--No!

I'm shopping for books to read on my and Darwin's trip up north next week, and I'm in the mood for gay fiction.  (Who knew?)  But it's a daunting task.  I'm getting a lot of:

"In this poetic--"  No. (1)

"This AIDS-wracked novel--" No. (2)

"A story of unrequited love that--" No. (3)

"The tragic tale of two--" No. (4)

"After the death of his--" No. (5)

Let's translate:

(1) The writer doesn't know how to plot, so he used prose so dense and so poetic to hide the fact.  Awful.

(2) I deal with AIDS enough in real life. I don't need to read about it. And can we PLEASE stop connecting AIDS with the LGBT community?

(3) Unrequited love has ruled gay fiction for hundreds of years. We're finally out of the closet and getting married. I refuse to read unrequited anything until we've had a few hundred years of happily-ever-afters for LGBT people.

(4) Why do LGBT people have to be tragic all the time?  We're SICK of tragedy.  No more. I refuse to buy or read (or watch) anything LGBT tragedy until, as with (3) above, we've caught up with the hets.

(5)  See (4) above.

I actually bought several comics I've been intending to read, not all of them LGBT-related: Grayson, Kevin Keller, the edgy new Archie (I've been wanting to see what it's like).  But those are fast reads, and I'll need some prose to hold me for the week.

Back to the Internets . . .

Re: Some books for you- you probably know at least one of them
Thank you! Darwin will kill me over the money I'm spending, but it's vacation, right?

Hey, it's vacation!

Plus, you are supporting authors who aren't on the top of the bestseller lists.

Confidential to Darwin:
Darwin, I often take your side on Facebook when Steven is being mean to you...let's let him get away with this book binge. :)
