As a fund-raiser for the It Gets Better Project, Doritos released a limited number of rainbow-colored bags of their chips.  If you donated at least $10 to the Project, you got a little bag of them.

Predictably, the right wing freak-out squad went gonzo.

Breitbart blew a nut bag.  Slaker exploded, "they make the perfect gateway snack to introduce children to the joys of homosexuality." Charisma News (a Christian news site) screeched "sex often infects people with E. coli bacterial infections," which is not only a blatant lie but also has nothing to do with Doritos or the It Gets Better Project.  "It makes no sense to alienate one part of society by pandering to another," the site finishes, apparently without noticing the irony.  (After all, if Doritos pandered to the slavering, howling right, it would alienate a much BIGGER group--the majority who believe in equality for LGBT people.)

The right wingers are calling for boycotts.  Don't buy Doritos!  Don't buy Frito-Lay!  Don't buy Pepsi products (because Pepsi owns all of the above)!  Of course, they'd have to boycott KFC, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and the dozens and dozens of other food emporia that Pepsi owns, but hey--never let practicality interfere with a good political statement!

They shout, "Doritos is a dead company!" <---- Actual Internet comment.

Sure.  Meanwhile, I donated to the Project.  And recently Doritos announced that all the special rainbow bags they'd created were spoken for.

So much for a boycott.  So much for a dead company.

And today, when I went grocery shopping, I bought a big bag of Doritos.

The BoycottDoritos page on Facebook has gathered (as of this writing) 150 followers.

Of course, Facebook publicly supports marriage equality, so the lackluster Doritos boycott people are using an Internet site that supports marriage equality to spread word about their bigoted boycott.

I don't normally eat snack foods like Doritos, but I'll be looking for these in the stores, if only to give as holiday gifts. Unless my daughter nabs them all first.
